Welcome to Ben's Website

Ben has been diagnosed with (PVL) Peroventricular Leukomalacia (damage to the white matter of the brain) and as a result has Spastic Diplegia & Mixed Cerebral Palsy.
Cerebral palsy, is a condition that disrupts the nerve signals between Ben's brain and his muscles, leading to problems with movement, posture and co-ordination.
Ben's muscles are very tight, particularly in his legs, and also his arms to a lesser extent. This means
that  Ben cannot walk independently and must rely on a wheelchair.

Many day to day tasks are either very differcult or impossible for him to do on his own, and he relies on help from others.
Ben's condition can make him very tired because his body has to work very hard to do every little thing.
Ben rarely complains about his life, the activities he misses out on due to being disabled, the ongoing physiotherapy and the endless hospital appointments.

There is no cure for Cerebral Palsy, but Ben has been offered hope in the form of an Intrathecal Baclofen Pump (See ITB Therapy page for more info) This operation, followed by ongoing Intensive Physiotherapy could give Ben far better mobility, and greatly increase his independence, and hopefully reduce the need for orthopaedic surgery in the future.
HELP BEN TO GET STRONGER........
We are asking for your help with ongoing fundraising so that Ben can continue with much needed Intensive Physiotherapy treatment to allow Ben to realise his full Potential and to gain as much independence as possible.
We also need fundraising to help supply equipment and therapies that are not provided or funded by statuatory services.
Please click on the Fundraising - ways to help Ben page to see what you can do to help.
We also want this Website to raise awareness of Ben's condition and to pass on as much information and experiences as possible, so that it may help other parents with a Cerebral Palsy child similar to Ben.

Please now visit our News & Events page.

Many, Many, Thanks for your support,

Ray & Janice Tickner and Family.
